| Things Our Customers Ask Us About Our Charters | ||
Afishinado Charters is Avalon's only IGFA certified operator for sportfishing Catalina Island>)))> >)))> >)))> >)))> Fish Art & Charters ![]() |
1. What is the maximum number of customers allowed on your boats? The AFISHINADO is a 36' Sportfisher that is Coast Guard licensed for up to six customers. Our other boat MOJO is also licensed for 6, however we recommend that you limit your group to 4 for fishing.2. Are your rates quoted per person or for the whole boat?We do not sell "seats", our rates are for the boat, Captain, gear, etc. There are no 'Open Party' charters out of Avalon Harbor, however, you are welcome to share the charter and costs with any new friends you meet in Avalon as long as you do not exceed the maximum of 4 on MOJO or 6 on AFISHINADO.3. What do your rates include? We sell half-day (4 hours) and full-day (8 hours) charters. We also offer extended days for those interested in going off-shore. Our rates cover the boat, the captain, the bait, tackle and gear. You are welcome to bring your own gear, however, it is a good idea to check with us in advance on this. We carry an ice chest with ice and you are free to bring drinks and food on board. Please try to bring drinks in cans rather than bottles.4. What about fishing licenses?Anglers 16 and over must have a valid California fishing license. If you do not have a license you cannot fish. We can pre-purchase one-day fishing licenses and have them on board for you with advance notice. The cost for 2008 is $12.60 per person for a one-day license. If you plan to watch and take pictures you do not need a license.5. What is a typical half day charter like? These charters are great for families with kids. We stay close to the island and we target the high opportunity fish to ensure that all anglers get a number of chances. We usually spot some sea life on these trips such as the eagles, sea lions and sometimes dolphins and whales. Our half-day (4 hour) charters leave around 6-7 am or around 12-1 pm. if you choose to take an afternoon charter. We also offer evening charters that start around 4 pm.6. How are the full-day charters different than the half-day charters? The most obvious difference is that we are on the water for a full 8 hours. This gives us a chance to move further up or around the island and to target a variety of species as the tides and currents change during the day. It is also possible to go off-shore on these charters.7. Can we keep the fish we catch? Most of the fishing around the island is catch and release, however, when we target and catch species that are good table fare, we can fillet them for you. A popular alternative is to take the whole fish into one of our restaurants and have a fresh fish dinner prepared just the way you like it.8. Should we bring an ice chest? No, we have ice chests on board filled with ice. It is best to bring whatever you want to eat and drink in collapsible bags so we can transfer your goodies into our ice chests.9. What about weather and sea conditions? It is very rare for us to have to cancel a trip due to weather. Fishing around an island provides us the benefit of fishing in coves and along sheltered coastlines. Sea sickness is rarely a problem, however, if you are at all prone to motion sickness then we would strongly suggest that you take some medicine, usually half the recommended dose is goood.10. Where do we meet you for our charter? We have a retail store called Fish Catalina located on the water at 105 Pebbly Beach Road, right across from the volleyball and basketball courts. Stop in the day before your charter to say Hi, buy a charter hat or T-shirt and make final arrangements. Usually we pick up AFISHINADO customers at the Float 5 and MOJO customers at the Green Pier.11. Is there a minimum or maximum age limit? No, however, we have found that kids under 5 do not get the fishing concept. They prefer to play with the bait. Seniors can fully enjoy a day on the water as long as they are fully mobile and can handle the motion of the ocean. If you have any physically-challenged members call ahead so that we can make sure to accomodate their needs. |
